Working group medical diagnosis

Screening and assessment of refugees with post-traumatic stress disorder is an important step in the asylum process. Since the so-called “Asylum Package II”, only statements by doctors, but not by psychological psychotherapists, are accepted in residence proceedings.

The requirements for medical assessments, which in practice involve significantly less effort than, for example, expert opinions, are clearly defined. Nevertheless, urgently needed opinions often do not come about due to a lack of knowledge on the part of medical colleagues or a lack of language mediation.

The Working Group on Medical Findings has set itself the task of improving the framework conditions for medical assessments, which are of central importance for many affected persons. In regular meetings, there is an exchange on possible solutions and the transfer of knowledge.

It is particularly important for us to exchange information with psychotherapists, lawyers and staff of specific counselling centres in order to address the above-mentioned aspects as comprehensively as possible.

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in participating or if you would like to get to know the working group without obligation. Even occasional participation is very welcome!
