STARK – Group therapy for addiction problems

After stressful experiences, many people suffer from strong feelings such as anger, fear or sadness. STARK (Skills Training for Affect Regulation) is a culturally sensitive group approach that teaches strategies to better cope with stressful feelings. As part of a BMBF-funded study (PREPARE), we offer a special STARK group aimed at male refugees with addiction problems.

The group takes place in cooperation with Therapiehilfe e.V. in their premises. It consists of 10 weekly sessions and is interpreter-assisted. The same language is spoken in each of the groups. They are currently offered to male refugees aged 18 and over who have had stressful experiences in their country of origin or on the run and have an elevated level of alcohol, drug or medication use.
